Request modest negative nice priority through RTKit off the event loop. Set reset-on-fork before requesting priority so workers and launched clients retain normal scheduling. Respect explicit scheduling choices and continue when priority cannot be confirmed.
Include observed timer dispatch delay in the render budget, capped at one refresh and decayed by elapsed time. Preserve the scheduled presentation target and output-local state. Existing scheduling assertions remain intact; a negative control verifies the new deadline regression.
The previous brightness cutoff rejected visible muted glyphs. Compare against the local background and resolved text colors, retaining the minimum ink count. Verified against the previous toolkit and with a hidden-label negative control.
Use persistent privacy-filtered capture targets and client-owned GPU buffers with fence completion, backpressure, negotiated frame rates and shared-memory fallback.
Invalidate output views on scene changes while preserving inactive-window callbacks and capture revocation. Include OBS memory-mask negotiation and native pixel, transport and recording regressions.
Verify outside contacts and additional fingers cannot reach the underlying window, and that up/cancel restore normal input. Covers the existing fix for #43.
Carry output identity through floating placement and restore, and retain the owning output when saved geometry overlaps multiple monitors equally.
Fixes#59.
Run descriptor-count assertions in private processes so concurrent display and process-monitor tests cannot change their baseline. Keep the existing leak, timing and socket-recovery assertions unchanged.
Pin 8a270232f1bfc416c781273c98a3f52a812a0bba and adapt protocol dispatch, input timestamps, configure state and rendering APIs. Preserve custom lock and toplevel validation, compositor-owned key repeats, and valid layer remapping sequences.
Add native icon-buffer lifecycle regressions for the GoLand and Spotify launch failure.
Remember and consume the opening interaction instead of depending on pointer focus. Revoke pending focus after another interaction, focus change, cancellation or unmapping, and retain lock and grab safeguards.
Fixes#54
Clear the old exception when a dialog is unparented or reparented, and remove child references when a parent is destroyed. Preserve floating placement while rebuilding the stacking order.
Fixes#55
Notify consumers when cached apps disappear and repopulate state from the next compositor snapshot. Cover disconnects, reconnects and duplicate signals on a private D-Bus session, and run the regression in CI.
Fixes#56
Add configurable work and break intervals, pause/resume, CLI and activity-popup controls, and silent completion alerts. Use CLOCK_BOOTTIME deadlines so running timers include suspend without consuming paused time.

Publish the guides from this repository to the GitHub Wiki. Organize them into Usage, Configuration and Development, with 15 separate configuration topics and redirects for the former website guide URLs.
Add a tabbed-windows guide covering grouping, switching tabs and taking windows out. Document the scrolling indicator's defaults and limits, and link the guide from the README, shortcuts and IPC pages. Update from main, including the latest tabbed-layout changes.
Separate Activities setup, configuration and publishing documentation. Review the guide prose with the unslop skill, keeping existing examples and heading links. The wiki workflow uses GitHub's built-in token to publish documentation changes on main.
Validation:
- 20 documentation tests pass, including README links and Activities/tab-indicator field coverage.
- The publisher builds 46 wiki pages; the site build and Python syntax checks pass.
- All 115 code examples from main are preserved.
- The Python suite passes: 90 tests passed and 31 opt-in integration tests skipped, with the system GI module available.
Add named keyboard shortcut maps with an Escape exit and a panel indicator. Keep press/release ownership across transitions, validate remapped Escape keys, and cancel stale repeats and focus previews.
Give the indicator ownership of the panel while a mode is active. Close popovers, collapse Morph, and keep Live Activities data current without resizing the hidden panel. Document configuration and transition behavior.
Validation: 1,519 workspace Rust tests passed; 70 Python tests passed. Workspace build, formatting, Clippy, and Settings configuration validation passed. Opt-in native desktop checks were not rerun because Weston is absent.

Invalid configuration currently prevents login. Ferese now starts with built-in defaults and shows a notification when the shell is ready, leaving the file untouched. Loading and validation belong to the config module, while the theme module resolves appearance. Validation remains strict, and failed live reloads keep the active settings.
The native Morph regression checks the animated input region and idle frame scheduling while its backing surface stays allocated.
Validation: workspace and Python tests, formatting, Clippy, release build, and isolated Wayland startup/reload and panel-motion tests. Native CI includes the startup regression.

Panel appearance now applies to the whole panel, with seven styles: Floating, Capsules, Notch, Edge to edge, Fused islands, Adaptive and Morph.
- Share composition, geometry, and motion through the renderer-independent `ferese-panel` crate, including native materials, input regions, and Settings previews.
- Add the Morph hub with media, calendar, notifications, controls, workspace previews, hover feedback, and attached mode. Keep recording and low-battery status visible and respect window clearance.
- Cache workspace preview geometry, draw thumbnails directly, centralize Morph transitions, and keep rendering settings local to each shell instance.
- Put Record Screen in the Morph header and show the display control only when an external monitor is connected. Update panel documentation, the desktop screenshot, and native check style names.
Local validation included 660 compositor tests, 191 shell tests, isolated preview-cache checks, GPU Morph captures at 1×/1.25×/1.5×, formatting, and Clippy with warnings denied. The final header change passed all 23 Morph tests. Release workflow jobs are skipped for this PR.
The top-bar recorder previously saved a full monitor without sound. It now lets you select a region within one monitor and choose system audio, microphone audio, or both. Audio remains off by default, and recordings with audio are saved as VP8/Opus WebM files. The portal still controls screen access and cancellation; stopping from the bar or ending the video stream finishes the recording, including its audio tracks.
Region selection accounts for fractional display scales and negative monitor coordinates. The picker keeps its action buttons visible while the display list and recording options scroll together. The picker, dependency lists, and recording documentation now explain the available choices and the slurp and audio requirements.
Routine pushes and pull requests no longer start CI runners. Workspace checks and website deployment are manual, while release checks run when requested manually, through a version tag, or through a PR labeled `release`. Publishing still requires a pushed version tag. This also fixes release asset checksums by normalizing RPM filenames before generating the checksum file.
Validated locally with a release build, portal and shell recorder tests, formatting, Clippy, actionlint, packaging tests, and mocked publishing checks. Media tests encoded and decoded cropped video with audio, checked that video termination finishes live audio, and exercised system, microphone, and combined capture against a private PipeWire-Pulse server. Mixed recordings must contain both fixture frequencies, with negative controls for either missing source. The picker was also checked on 800 × 600 and 800 × 400 desktops and opened in a live nested window.

Pin the Iced/libcosmic candidate that paints contour interiors directly and reduces rectangular clipping work. Keep WGPU as the default and update all consumers consistently.
Repeated panel updates rebuilt unchanged controls and SVG artwork, cloned composition data, and kept unused workspace icon resources. This reuses controls when their layout stays the same, bounds the SVG cache, removes temporary layout allocations, and releases icon resources when apps close or the workspace style changes.
Rapidly closing a modal could also leave a native surface behind when its asynchronous creation finished after the close. Late openings now get destroyed when their owner is gone. Ferese uses the published `ferese-v0.1.2` Iced/libcosmic fixes so a temporary software buffer/viewport size mismatch retries the frame instead of crashing.
Two runs per version of the same workspace/overview/reload workload measured **26% fewer allocated bytes and 23% fewer allocation calls**. A separate 1,800-cycle notification/modal stress run retained about **40 MiB less shell memory**, including shared-buffer retention falling from 28.2 MiB to 272 KiB. These are measured workload results, not an overall desktop speedup claim.
Validation:
- 1,350 workspace tests passed, including GPU Settings text rendering (50 optional tests ignored); formatting and Clippy passed.
- Native continuous/island panel tests passed rapid notification resizing, modal cancellation, and live material/input-region changes.
- A Wayland lifetime trace confirmed all 280 created modal surfaces were destroyed; longer DHAT traces and Intel GPU memory measurements were checked separately.
- All installation binaries rebuilt and the installation bundle passed inventory and checksum verification.
